Angelika Markul / The Jewish Museum Is Giving Away Art. You Get What You Pay For / The New York Times / Roberta Smith

“It’s briefly fun for a museum to suspend the usual rules of behavior and let visitors touch and even take the art. But ultimately too much of the work in this show is inconsequential. It offers further evidence that the academic elevation of Conceptual Art has limited the ambitions and skills of many art students. But we will all find exceptions. Mine include “Gone With the Wind,” by Angelika Markul, a Polish artist. It consists of a fan with plastic bags of air — filled by visitors with the fan’s help — piled around its base. It is a piece straight out of Ms. Ono’s playbook, but nice.”
