Wojciech Puś

b. 1978, lives and works in Łódź (PL) and Berlin (DE).

Holds an M.A. in cinematography (2004) and a PhD (2013) in film/multimedia from the National Film School in Łódź. Assistant Professor at the Department of Multimedia in the Faculty of Cinematography at the National Film School in Łódź. Puś is a filmmaker, artist, lighting and set designer. His works mainly take the form of spatial installations that use moving pictures, light and sound to create an experimental cinematic medium. His works are rooted in extensive research into the cinematographic and semantic character of motion pictures. They refer to the realm of queer abstraction, of spirituality and intimacy, which are balanced on the edge of reality and magical realism, creating a mysterious, poetic aesthetic. His treatment of queer themes is characterised by a post-emancipatory stance of the artist functioning as a spectator who documents his subjects in an entirely abstract manner. His films have been presented at: New Horizons International Film Festival in Wrocław and Artists’ Film Biennial at the Institute of Contemporary Art in London. He was a participant of the Feature Expanded film residency (2016), which supports visual artists in their feature cinema debuts.

Works are held in the following collections:
– Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw
– Bunkier Sztuki Gallery, Kraków
– Osman Djajadisastra Collection, Germany
